PPF thickness is more than just a number — it is defined during the TPU casting process, where the EDI die and line speed determine the final film thickness. After that, multiple coating layers build the complete structure. Real performance comes from both thickness + TPU grade. 6.5 mil offers flexibility and easy installation, 7.5 mil provides balanced protection for most markets, 8.5 mil delivers stronger impact resistance for harsher environments. 1. How is PPF thickness created?

1、PPF 厚度是如何形成的?

PPF thickness is not measured at the end — it is defined during the TPU casting process.
PPF 的厚度不是最后随便量出来的,而是在 TPU 流延工艺 中就已经确定了。


The EDI die controls the extrusion volume.

EDI 模头决定挤出量。

More molten TPU → thicker TPU base film
熔融 TPU 越多 → 基膜越厚

Less molten TPU → thinner, softer film
熔融 TPU 越少 → 基膜越薄、更柔软

 

Line speed controls the stretching ratio.

线速度决定薄膜的拉伸比例。

Higher line speed → thinner film
线速越快 → 薄膜越薄

Lower line speed → thicker film
线速越慢 → 薄膜越厚

Thickness = Extrusion Volume ÷ Line Speed
厚度 = 挤出量 ÷ 线速度

After that, layers such as the adhesive layer, self-healing coating, and top coat are applied.
在此基础上,再叠加 胶水层、自修复涂层、表面功能涂层 等多层结构,

This produces the final thickness: 6.5 mil, 7.5 mil, 8.5 mil.

2. Thickness is not only “more material” — TPU grade matters too.

Yes—thicker film uses more TPU material, which improves impact resistance.But flexibility, durability, and installation feel are also determined by TPU grade.

Different thicknesses often use different TPU formulations:
